Chiltern Railways have announced that they are continuing to invest in their popular passenger Wi-Fi service.
By working more closely with Mobile Network Operators such as EE, Chiltern’s Wi-Fi provider, Icomera, is extending its service to locations which traditionally have poor cellular connection, such as tunnels and remote rural areas.
By positioning cellular towers closer to Chiltern Railways routes, EE is able to increase coverage for rail passengers.
Chiltern Railways was one of the first rail companies to provide Icomera-powered Wi-Fi to trains in the UK. Parent company, Arriva, is using the deployment of this infrastructure as a test bed for other services. Widespread EE coverage will be rolled out across the entire Chiltern Railways network by December 2016.
