Travellers on Swedish Rail operator, SJ, can now surf the Internet at significantly faster speeds.
Icomera has recently upgraded the onboard network on the X 2000 trains to meet the demands on network capacity. Passengers travelling on these 36 upgraded trains will be able to surf the web with speeds of at least 1 Mbps: twice the previous speed.
Icomera Wi-Fi was first installed on SJ in 2003, and has proved enormously popular with passengers; Wi-Fi access is rated the most important element of travel after punctuality and seat availability. Since the new network has been installed, use of onboard Wi-Fi has increased by about 100,000 logins per month.
David Nilsson, Product and Concept Manager at SJ said: “Now the new network is ready we have expanded our capacity so as to be able to stream video content all the way between Stockholm and Gothenburg. The new network is very stable, and the entire train has a much better connection.”
