MTR Express is taking steps to improve the quality of Passenger Wi-Fi offered on its fleet of high-speed trains, partnering with Icomera for an upgrade programme. The next-generation onboard Wi-Fi service will be available on all MTR Express trains connecting two of Sweden’s key economic and social hubs, Stockholm and Gothenburg.
Icomera’s Passenger Wi-Fi solution will be installed on all 6 MTR Express trains currently in operation, using the award-winning X-series platform. The first train is scheduled to be equipped by early Autumn 2018, with the other 5 trains to follow shortly thereafter.
Icomera’s Wi-Fi solution will help facilitate connected journeys for those travelling on MTR Express trains. Passengers will be able to communicate with friends and family via social media, shop online, catch-up with the latest news, or even learning a new language. Keeping those on board entertained with Wi-Fi also has clear environmental benefits; in the past, passengers viewed travel time as “grey time”, but offering reliable Passenger Wi-Fi helps encourage travel by train rather than cars and other, less carbon-efficient forms of public transport, such as planes.
Thomas Roberts, Icomera’s Senior VP for EMEA, said: “We are very pleased to be working together with MTR Express for this upgrade project, improving access to quality onboard Passenger Wi-Fi for those traveling along such a pivotal route in Sweden. Icomera’s solution will help further strengthen the passenger experience that MTR Express deliver to their customers, while also providing the framework for a truly connected solution, from which a range of other onboard services could be delivered in future.”
Mats Johannesson, CEO of MTR Express said: “Our goal is to provide our customers with the very best experience, through the highest quality service at low fares. Offering fast and reliable Passenger Wi-Fi is a key requirement for meeting and exceeding travellers’ expectations and MTR Express is confident that Icomera is the best partner to support us in this.”
