Icomera has achieved ISO 27001 certification for information security management. The pioneer in mobile connectivity for public transport has become one of the first in its industry to obtain this certification.
Cyber security is now a global issue, a consequence of the progression towards digitalisation. The growth in online attacks against businesses, institutions and infrastructure means it is paramount to ensure personal and company data is protected. As a provider of infrastructure, this is a major concern for all transport operators looking to keep passenger and operational data secure on public transport.
The ISO 27001 standard demands that a company implements an Information Security Management System (ISMS). The 2016 EU directive on the security of Networks and Information Systems (NIS Directive) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) are examples of practical applications of compliance.
Karl-Johan Holm, Icomera CEO: “This is a process-based, risk-driven approach focusing on continuous improvement. Our system enables us to understand what assets must be protected against which risks, and how those risks are mitigated. The NIS Directive requires all Public Transport Operators to be able to detect, resolve and report any data breaches to relevant authorities within 72 hours. GDPR, in turn, requires that all personal data is stored and managed appropriately.
“Transport operators expect us to provide a best-in-class service protecting them and their passengers from online threats – Icomera AB & GmbH’s compliance with these standards demonstrates our commitment to information security best practices.”
Preparing for certification, Icomera sought consultation from SecureLink, a market leading provider of cyber security, who empower businesses to ensure their data is secure. SecureLink General Manager for Sweden, Leif Gyllenberg said: “For many companies, the road to ISO 27001 certification is typically a two-year commitment. Icomera achieved certification in 8 months, highlighting its company-wide engagement with ensuring their technology, people and processes are aligned to this rigorous standard.”
Speaking on the topic of how ISO 27001 certification will support the pursuit of its long term goals, Icomera CEO Karl-Johan Holm added: “Our vision is to create a world that is safer, more efficient and more environmentally friendly. Improving the appeal of public transport is therefore vital and ensuring the digital security of this infrastructure is key to realising our goal of achieving connected journeys around the world.”
